Leaders of Tomorrow

May 14th, 2009 by Elizabeth Marincola, President of Society for Science & the Public

Tonight and tomorrow morning Intel and Society for Science & the Public will be presenting nearly $4 million in awards to the top young scientists in the world. It has been inspiring to meet many of the 1,563 students who are competing here in Reno this week. In learning more about their projects and seeing their dedication and potential I know they will take a key role in tackling society’s toughest challenges.

At Society for Science & the Public, we work to inspire the next generation of young researchers through our education programs: research-enthusiastic students through our education program including the Intel Science Talent Search and the Intel International Science & Engineering Fair; teachers and communities with the resources necessary to promote inquiry-based research through our Fellows program; the public through Science News magazine.

Over the past week that I have spent time with our Finalists, I have witnessed their sophistication, intelligence, imagination and discipline. I have every confidence that they will be among the leaders of tomorrow. I am hopeful about our future knowing that we will be in their capable hands.
