Amazing Kids to Fascinating Adults: Following Up with Intel Science Competition Alums

September 20th, 2010 by Gail Dundas, Intel Global Communications Group

People love stories about amazing kids. We see it all the time with our Intel-sponsored science competitions. World-weary reporters find hope and excitement in a US high school senior with the beginnings of a cure for stage two colon cancer. Communities small and large herald their local science-smart kids as miracles. In a company with a lifeblood called innovation, we believe that many more kids can make miracles, if their natural curiosity is nurtured and stimulated. We sponsor science competitions so kids can see the possibilities of science – for the future.

In the next couple of months, here at Inspire (a social network for people who care about education) we will focus on just that; the future of those youth who were finalists in Intel science competitions. Where did they go? What are they doing now? Are there lessons in their paths for today’s kids, and their parents?

Today, we begin with Intel International Science and Engineering Fair alum Jeremy Fryer-Biggs, an inspiring young man who, since competing in the Intel Fair in 2001, has done everything from building a mechanical shark to creating a nonprofit that provides business skills training to Ugandans. Keep reading to learn more about Jeremy and be sure to check back in right here on Inspire over the coming months as we profile other Intel science competition alums!
