Project: A Novel Chemical Synthesis for >1 MUm 2 Graphene Sheets
Paul, 17, studied and developed a new and innovative synthesis method for graphene. In the past, he researched nanoparticles in toothpaste and he devised a simple method to create comparatively large grapheme sheets. Paul plays tennis and is a Chamber Orchestra Manager.
Ruoyi Jiang – Ward Melville High School, East Setauket, NY
Project: Targeting Loop Dynamics in BetaI/BetaIII Isotype Tubulin: The Application of In Silico Techniques in Combating Chemotherapy Drug Resistance
Ruoyi, 17, used a supercomputing modeling to study why drug resistance occurs with Paclitaxel, a widely-used cancer drug. He found an explanation for the drug resistance and a solution based on the shape of the abnormal protein. Additionally, Ruoyi is the chief editor of his school’s student newspaper and recently won the 2009 Siemens’ Science Competition.
