The Use of Bioluminescent Bacteria to Detect Environmental Contaminants


I developed a biosensor from bioluminescent bacteria to detect the presence of contaminants in public water supplies. My biosensor is more efficient, cheap, and versatile than current biotoxicity assays, and I hope it can be used in developing countries to reduce water pollution.

Career Goal: I would like to make it into a top college and succeed there to move on to a career in science in which I can always have the opportunity to learn.
Field Interest: I participated in science fair every year since elementary school. I liked Environmental Science in particular after doing a science fair project on biodegradation in 8th grade and learning all facets of last year’s debate topic on Sustainability and Alternative Energy.
