“How Worms Learn (Part III): Mammalian Gene Expression and Associative Conditioning in Caenorhabditis elegans”

I isolated a gene that can be used to improve the intelligence of a worm. The results could help us better understand how humans learn and even prevent, treat and cure mental disabilities in the future.

Stats: 16 year-old Junior from Boston Latin School in Boston, MA

Influential Person: My parents and my mentor, who have inspired me throughout the project and encouraged its inception.

Career Goal: As yet I am not sure what I want to do; I want to attend an excellent college that will afford me the flexibility to discover my true passions.

Field Interest: I have always been interested in behavioral science, and the scientific motivation and mechanisms behind actions. My discovery of C. elegans was almost accidental, but throughout the project it has provided me the perfect canvas for my chosen course of study.
