Projects that Inspire
May 29th, 2009 by InspiredbyEducationThe Underground Radio II

An Underground Radio can be used for cave and mine rescues, radiolocation, underground imaging, and detection of coal and petroleum and for monitoring an underground microclimate. In this project, I designed, built and tested in actual caves a new two way digital Underground Radio demonstrating an operational goal of a 300m range through limestone.
Name: Alexander Kent Kendrick
Stats: 16 year-old Sophomore from Los Alamos High School in Los Alamos, NM
Influential Person: My dad
Career Goal: I would like to attend college and graduate school and obtain a PhD in a field of Chemistry, Physics, Electrical Engineering or Geology.
Field Interest: I became interested in the underground radio through the caving community and because it would speed up the time and efficiency of a cave rescue. Digital communication interested me the most because the cave team could upload critical patient information to the surface for medical applications.
